You don't need to take 5 or 6 lessons every week to experience those moments of pure dancing. You just need a clear plan for your practice time.
My name is Katie Flashner, but I'm also known as the Girl with the Tree Tattoo. I've been a ballroom dancer since 2012 and have competed in the NDCA pro-am circuit since 2014.
In 2017, I placed 5th out of 7 at the Embassy Ballroom World Championships. I returned in 2018 and placed 1st out of 11 couples!
The video above is from the final round.
The entire time I was dancing, I felt so grounded and balanced in my body. Everything just clicked and I couldn't have been happier to be doing what I love.
I only take 1 to 2 private lessons a week. It was my solo practice that got me on the top podium. I put the same strategies that made such a dramatic difference in my dancing in the Solo Practice Guide for Ballroom Dancing. So whether you've been wanting to practice on your own but weren't sure how or where to start, or you've been practicing but feel like it's not making much of a difference, this Guide will help you put the pieces together so you can hear that *click*.
All of your questions finally answered! In PDF or printed format, the Guide takes you through the why, when, where, what and how of solo practice. Two bonus chapters also cover supplemental training and mindset.
You'll also gain access to a private Facebook group reserved for dancers who solo practice. Connect with other dancers to exchange ideas, struggles and breakthroughs. We may be practicing alone, but we're not on this journey alone!
Track your progress with worksheets that are designed to help you put the Guide's information into action and create a solo practice routine that is effective and designed to fit your needs as a dancer. There's nothing like having a record that you can look back on to see how far you've progressed!
Along with the community of dancers developing their solo practice right alongside you, you'll also be connected with the Girl with the Tree Tattoo and other ballroom resources who more anything want to help you grow into the dancer you're meant to be.
Feel your confidence grow as you get clarity on how to create your own solo practice routine and watch your dancing improve! And so there are absolutely no lingering questions, the Guide also comes with videos to provide real life demonstration of some of the concepts discussed in the Guide, so you can better apply them.
Is this Guide good for beginners?
Yes! Practice is important for dancers at any level. The Guide is designed to work and grow with you. So whether you're just getting started or have been dancing for years, the Guide will help you build an effective solo pactice.
What kind of results can I expect?
When I applied the Guide's concepts to my own solo practice, I saw almost instant results. I understood my choreography better, my technique improved, and even though I was practicing on my own, my connection with my dancer partner grew stronger! I also started to feel more confident in my dancing.
To top it all off, after placing 5th out of 7 at the World Championships in 2017, I returned a year later and placed 1st out of 11 couples! That's right, only a year of applying these solo practice strategies, I took home a World Champion title!
I'm so busy. I just don't have time to practice.
I get it! I work a full-time day job, I write for my own blog plus other websites, and I have two dogs at home who need their mama. That's why an entire chapter of the Guide is dedicated to figuring out when and how long to practice in a way that fits your life and schedule.
I already get homework from my teacher. How will the Guide make a difference for me?
The Solo Practice Guide is a GREAT tool to supplement and enhance the practice homework you get from your teacher. It will show you how to build a better structure around your practice and how you can keep your teacher involved in what you work on outside of your lessons.
Is the Guide only useful for certain styles?
The Guide can be used for practicing all four styles of ballroom dance - International Ballroom, International Latin, American Smooth and American Rhythm, as well as any other partner dance really!
